What's on the bottom of your tank seperating the rock from the glass??? Just trying to get a feel for what people are using if anything. What is the suggested material for a BB??
Live rock rubble for me (what you really see in the valley between the reef peaks). And where the maroon clown rests, nothing but glass slowly turning purple...
Well that works out great seeing as though I don't know what starboard is and want to go BB, that is excellent. Still may put a little CC down for appearances. Any thoughts about switching the sand from my 29 and putting it in the sump/ refug???? Would that disturb the system and release nitrates or other chemicals? Anyone?? Thanks guys
Nothing and never a problem. Starboard is just an unnecessary detritus trap that helps people sleep better at night who worry about rock collapses Having said that, I'm sure the bottom of my tank will crack soon from just such an event.
Sleep easier at night??? -- Didn't you reinforce the seams on your tank??? If your tank crack, call me and I will be the first one there to care for any corals you need. Warning, they may come back smaller than you remember. Thanks Dave, I am actually modeling my new setup partially from yours, or at least what I remember from it.
I just have Starboard because I tend to drop things
I dropped a butter knife I was using in my 90 one time and it cut a huge Caulastrea in half :eek1:
The 40 is shallow enough that I don't think rock collapses would be a problem and as Dave stated they are rare otherwise.
