I've seen a lot of growing interests in ricordeas. Why are they so special? I am also looking into getting one, they have a sale going on at my LFS and they are 20$. Is that worth it for 1? :crazy1:

Seems kind of high but depends upon if you like it or not. Personally, I am not a big fan of rics but there are some colorful ones out there if you like them.

Compared to many other mushrooms they seem to have more "character". As to special... its all opinion. Some peps like sps, lps, zoas, shrooms, non-photo, ect.

If you see one you really like and think its worth the price then sure.

I was going to get 1 but I just acquired a mantis shrimp so I'm in the process of building a suitable home for him =)

What is so special about any coral? It just a pretty little weird animal that we keep, if you like ricordea, then buy them, if you dont like them, then dont, its the same with anything else, its no more special that anything.

I am addicted to rics.

Beware, I got about 50 different ric heads in my 10g... They multiply like no tomorrow. Originally the rock only had about 4 or 5 heads and a year later I got an infestation... But, if your into rics then thats not a bad thing, they just take over leaving less room for other corals. Very easy to frag and sell.

Be careful with corals around a mantis. Like the OP said the mantis can't eat them... but the lighting required for corals can sometimes promote shell rot growth on the animal if water quality isn't up to scratch.

Thanks for the info

I'm researching into corals that I can put into that tank that need minimal lighting.

I've had a ric on a rock in my tank for id say about 8 months now, and it hasn't split once. Still a single one attached to the rock, he has gotten considerably bigger though

Depends on the Ric's color and if its something you "gotta have". It will always be supply and demand with any coral out there. What one person finds as boring, the other person finds as fascinating.

Either one of these below will bring color and movement to an aquarium.

I'm sure this thing glows like mad under RB leds.

And let's not forget mushrooms. Yeah, it's a mushroom, but how many of these have you seen?
