What's the best HOB Skimmer?

HI guys, I was just wondering what the best hang on the back skimmer is. The wife won't let me have a sump(worried about the expensive hardwood floors) so I'm stuck with the HOB option. I have 46 gallon tank and planning on a light bioload. Thanx guys!!!

I hear good things about Warner Marine as well. Price range for the skimmer you're looking to buy would help.

I bought the Octo bh2000 and have been happy with it. I would estimate it produces about 2-3x more skimmate, and darker skimmate, than my old Remora Pro. It should be in your price range as well.

I have the octopus BH2000 as well. Great skimmer, A few micro bubbles here and there but i just slid a filter sock over the out take and the bubbles go up in the filter sock instead of through it. Still a few here and there, But worth it imo for the performance.

I would worry more about HW floors with a HOB skimmer than a sump. When they overflow (they do), its on the floor. An in sump skimmer doesn't have that problem.

Anyone have any experience with the Octopus 800s with Sicce pump? I'm thinking about upgrading my Remora w/mj1200 to one. How does it compare to the BH2000?

I bought an aqua c remora pro on reef central for around $130 then upgraded the pump and it pulls a lot out of my tank. I have to empty the cup every 2 days.
I'm happy with it for the price tag. Now I use the mj1200 for water changes.

I agree... My tunze skimmer overflowed a lot today (due to my messing with it and not paying close enough attention).. luckily it's an in-tank skimmer.

If I were you and had $200 to spend on a skimmer, I'd be looking for a used Warner Marine Hang On, used Deltec, or a used Tunze 9005. My 2 cents. Or, go a bit above that and buy the WM or Tunze new.

I used to have a HOB skimmer, on the second floor, and one day noticed some water dripping down a wall. I quickly ran upstairs to find my skimmer had been overflowing for quite some time and there was tons of water on the floor. I switched to a sump and have never had another drop of water touch the wood floors. Except when i drop a bucket haha.
