just wondering what would be the best pump for flow in a closed loop setup were limited to 3/4" plumming drain and return trying to get the max out of this setup and the head is about 6'-7' to the returns so if any of u equipment genuises can help i would appreciate it!

is it even feasable to get a decent amount of flow out of a 3/4" drain??

thanks!

Hydor SELTZ L45 is a pump that I am EXTREMELY impressed with.

Also the Laguna Maxflo's are suppose to be EXCELLENT (ask Hahmeister).

Eheim if you want to pay more for well-known quality and durability.

anyone else ?? thanks ill look those up and the pump has to be an external pump.....

lookin to get most flow through it as possible i know 3/4" isnt much....

does anyone know the most possible flow that can be sucked through a 3/4" pipe this should tell me then how big of a pump i can put on the CL so im not over doing it or under doing it...

something in terms of GPH would be very helpful

thanks! :D

I bushed down from a 1" bulkhead drain to a 3/4".

I've read on this board that you can bush up. Eg: from a 1" overflow to a 1.5" overflow for, as an example, a Sequence Reeflo Snapper pump that has a 1.5" supply and a 1.5 discharge.

You didn't mention if this 3/4" line was for a supply or discharge. I would assume the same holds true. From everything I've read you can expect upto 600 gph from a 1" line and about 250 gph from a half inch line. I think those were the numbers I got from Sprung/Delbeek, "The Reef Aquarium vol. 3".

FWIW, the laguna pumps are MUCH nicer (and also more expensive) than the eheims.

None of them are suitable for this situation though, all are flow pumps.

Run something like a small Iwaki, and put eductors on the outputs.

thanks for the info

after talking with the tank owner we decided to go another route... we tried the 3/4" plumming first using a GenX mak4 pump which i think was a poor choice especially since the input and output from the tank was only 3/4" so just not enought flow...

we originally used his drain hole in the bottom of the tank to save from drilling other drain holes but it just isnt working to satisfactory demands

so he is ending up changing out all his LS and LR for a better quality and when hes doing that im guna drill the tank in the lower back corner for a 1.5" drain and hes getting a bigger pump i mean much bigger this go around hes getting the Sequence Reeflo Barracuda... i got the Dart on my 180 and it makes nice flow hes got a 240 inwall with a tunzee wave box in it already so i guess we might be going the sps route lol

i figured since he had the tank down we do it the right way and make it a nice sized drain hole with a nice sized pump for some awesome flow...

so its guna be 1.5" in and 1.5" out to 3-1" return holes along the top luckily hes got an acrylic tank 3/4" thick makes it easier on drilling
