What's the best way to sell my reef tanks?

Howdy:

I know this probably isn't the best place for the question, and I realize that there's a sales forum, but the problem I have is this:

We are in San Angelo, Texas ... just about in the middle of the State. We have two tanks ... an 80 gal with 200 pounds of sand and 130 pounds of live rock; and a 35 gal with 100 pounds of sand and 60 pounds of rock. Each tank has one clown fish. We don't have any inverts.

I don't know if these are items we can sell, and I don't know how much to ask for them if we can.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanx.

well that all depends on what you are looking to get for them, ...

why are you selling?
what else comes with it all?
etc.

We don't have the time to properly care for them, and we're looking at reducing our "stuff" level.

We have about a dozen various Maxi-Jets (400s and 1200s), stands for each tank, and an heater in each one. Sand, rock, one fish each, and the stuff growing on the rocks. Probably worms in the sand.

I have a canopy I built for the 80, but it's not completed ... needs to be painted, drawers but, &c. I have the epoxy paint for it. I also have the parts to build flourescent and halide lighting. But, since I never had time to complete the canopy, I didn't work with the lights. Much of that equipment is still in the boxes that they arrived in. We have the bulbs (2 110 w blue and 1 110 w full spectrum flouros. I think the halides are 250 w). We have the fittings and balasts for all the lighting.

Some specimen boxes, test kits and cleaning stuff ... general maintenance equipment, you know?

[welcome]

First list all items for each tank and try to sell as a whole unit. Than if no response you can part out. People will tell you what they have interest in when you list as whole. For price look at other for sale to get an idea. Good Luck!

marshreef.com has a lot of members from the Houston area and beyond and you might find a local reef club in the San Antonio / Austin area. dfwmas.org is a club in the DFW area that also has a lot of members beyond the metro area. Just post what you have in any of these club forums and go from there.

Go to your local fish store(s) and ask if you can put up pics and a for sale sign. Offer the owner a small cut if he/she is hesitant. Word of mouth is a great way too. Tell your friends and have them tell their friends. Eventually you'll get it sold. Good luck!

that's a amen on what ERICinFL said... post a "for sale" notice in your local fish store, if they'll let you. When we went to the 240g., they sold our 100 gallon for us pretty quickly. Also on the selling forums here- I can't believe how fast most of the stuff sells. I've been browsing it for a few weeks now, and everything that I find that I'd want, is gone already! Guess one has to be on here more than me to get first dibs, and I'm on here every night! Good luck w/your stuff!
