Whats the difference between these two:

One says its a retrofit kit and the other is not. Theres a big price difference but both say plug and play so i dont know how much actual retrofitting i would have to do. Should i just get the retro? (i know nothing about wiring or DIY electrical etc.)

Thanks
( i didn't know if i should put this in the DIY forum or the Equipment. Sorry if its in the wrong place)

One is a bulb with reflector (bent piece of shiny metal) with the wires sticking out of the sockets. The other is the bulb with the reclector, but the reflector is mounted in a "pendant" that consists of a housing, end caps, cord, and glass.

Looks like the black box in the retro kit is the ballast.

May be hard to find a "pendant" that fits. But yes. You could mount it directly in your hood. Other 400W bulb owners could tell you if you need UV protection for this type of bulb or not ( I own DE bulbs and need UV protection). I don't think many people run UV shields on single ended (screw in type) bulbs, as the bulb itself has UV protection in the outer envelope (glass).

the first one is an HQI bulb, which requires UV shielding, which comes with the pendant. The second is a single-ended bulb which does not require UV shielding, and can be mounted inside a canopy with or without the pendant.
