What's the most water you've ever spilled on the floor?

I decided to replace my dosing pump. When I disconnected it I didn't realize one end of the hose fell into the sump and the other end of the hose made its way to the outside of the sump.

At first I thought the evaporation today is intense...

Then I stepped in a wet spot and thought that I must have spilled some water when I was topping off this morning.

Then I stepped in another wet spot and thought that my tank of sump must have sprung a leak and I was looking all over for leaks at the obvious places.

Then I spotted one end of the old dosing pump tube below the water line in the sump and I couldn't see where the other end went. The syphon of death :(

Luckily my tanks were not leaking, it was only an 1/8" polyflow tubing, I caught it in the 10 gallon range and I own a wet vac.

Just curious how much water you've spilled on the floor to make me feel better :)

A lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time ago,i worked at my LFS,& i let an industrial RO unit run overnite till 10:00am the next day.

There was 4" of water in the whole store.

i did a 20 gallon tank in my upstairs apartment i live in now. it was temporarily on the counter in kitchen for qt tank. for some reason it cracked. counter was wet, tank was empty, but not 20 gallons of water....went down stairs and neighbor didnt have any water.

hmmm....it was in the kitchen. all of my mixing bowls and tupperware was full of water, lucky break.

Not that long ago my power went out and due to a plugged hole in one of my return lines the siphon didn't break. So my 65g tank dropped down to about 4 inches of water. My sump is 30g and so I'm guessing somewhere in the neighborhood of 30-40g went on the floor. No water damage though, wood floors and I cleaned it up in a couple of hours and can't see any problems.

As for the tank, I had some RO water and mixed in salt like a mad man, stirred it for 5 minutes and started pumping water back in when the power came on 3 hours later. I didn't lose anything but some xenia and one shrimp who decided to die on top of a powerhead rather than follow the water as it went down in the tank. Acros, frogspawn, clam, clove polyps, coco worm, hundreds of mushrooms and a cup coral all survived fine. There wasn't any sort of spike after the fact and now everything is growing like crazy.

Maybe it's because of the 40 gallon waterchange I did :)

The waste line on my rodi unit was pulled out of the drain and during this time my unit refilled my entire 30g garbage can. So i am guessing that ~100 gallons of waste water went across my basement. BTW the floor is not pitched right and the drain is for no apparent reason ELEVATED

I left the RODI running overnight and forgot to turn off in the morning, i think about 10-20 gallons went onto the basement floor.

but worse than that, it seems like I spill a few cups worth everytime i screw around with the tank..... eventually my basement 2x4s are gonna rot.....

My record is less than 1/2 gallon at once. BUt probably 10 gallons accumulated over the years.

I hope you are knocking on wood as you type that. That track record can hold on forever lol

I've spilt about 30 gallons, that rained through the recessed lighting downstairs.
I had a carlson surge device running on a 65 gallon half full, with a simple u tube, being fed by a throttle down quiet one 3000, with a hose thrown in it. It had been working for a few weeks, and one day the hose slipped out while i was sleeping, and emptied basically the whole tank on the floor. (65 half full) ANd i didn't wake up becuase that thing was ridiculously loud and i had gotten used to it.

Another story about a LFS and leaving the RO unit on. I worked in the mornings and would go out to houses to clean tanks. So the night before the closing crew including the owner left the RO unit on to top off the entire saltwater fish system.

That morning we opened the doors to a flood and all the saltwater tanks were at .5. We lost a lot of fish that day...

Flimsy trash container that toppled and there went 25 gallons on my tile floor. I knew when I heard it and saw the rush of water coming around the corner:mad: :(

My G3's output spilled 10 gallons of saltwater on the floor.
And one time I had one of those 5 gallon GLASS jugs that weighed about 50 lbs. empty. I tried to pick it up and the the whole thing was full and wet and I dropped it on the ground. My parents didn't really like me using the wet-dry vac at midnight.

I dumped a 50 gallon garbage can of freshly made saltwater for a water change in my garage (of course everything in it's path rusted. the most Iv'e ever dumped in my home was 25-30 gallons on my hardwood floor, luckily I happen to be a hardwood flooring contractor for 23 years so it bothered me like not at all. I was more afraid of what the wife was going to say if she walked in the house at that time. my next 180 tank upgrade "WILL" have a water overflow drain pan under the stand so this won't be so tramatic.

my ro can put out about 300-350g per hour and my top float didn't turn it off. it ran all night. thanks to a floor drain, there was no flood to clean. just a water bill to pay. thank god this was at my carwash and not at home with my salt tank.

I was transporting 45g of saltwater from my buddies tank to mines in my isuzu rodeo (mini suv) and at a sudden stop it flipped forward and drowned me inside my car!! haha, not really but it did flood the floor of my car, and when I opened the doors water poured out. kind of a cool sight to see kinda like in the movies.

I had purchased some r/o water and had it in 3 5g containers in the back of my suv. Nvr thought to take it out before going out on the traditional family pizza night until my husband decided to drive. Nvr thought to ck the water when we returned home. So the next day I am getting ready to do a water change. Go out to my truck and I have approx 7 gal of r/o dumped in my truck. I thank my lucky stars it was'nt saltwater.

All at an LFS

100+ gallons from not resetting the float switch on the RO unit. Water over the entire store & through the walls into the barber shop next door. Spent all day with the shop vac and mop, all evening next door with the carpet shampooer.

~125 gallons when our 125g stock tank valve didn't close itself when I forgot to. Another clean floor after that one.

It's just a fact of life that working at an LFS you're going to put massive amounts of water down. Fortunately the owner realized that and didn't get mad so long as we cleaned up.

40g from my main display in my front room at 3am :) so my dog woke me up and i instantly smelled electrical fire so i went into the front room to find my tank half empty and a plug strip melted and shooting fire at the back wall. standing in water i reach back there and yank the plug out of the wall. i still live to tell this tale. my mag3 came off my hob remora and pumped the water up and out of the tank. good thing one of my dogs nose works!he is the def one too. this is where i learned about gfi. just another job for the shop vac and the bissel.
