What's this worth?

I have a 29 gallon bowfront tank, with glass top.

I also have a Current Sundial with 4 t5's in it. It has two switches, fans, and one single power cord. It's in great condition, still has the plastic covers that protect the timers, and the original box. I can make no promises on the bulbs useage, since they were in it when I bought it. I only used them about 2 months and the other guy said he used them for about 4...but you know how that goes.

I'm considering selling one or both of these to help get some new bulbs for my 48" t5 setup. I may list these for sale here or on Craigslist, but don't really know what they're worth and whether I'd rather get that much money or keep them as backups.

Oh, and I have a steel stand for a 30 gallon tank. I think it will work for a 20 gallon long tank also. I think it's something like 30x18" or close to that. If any reef club folks are interested, I'd take trades or sell pretty cheap.

thanks!

How long is the light you are lookin at selling? And what would you be askin for it? I know you came on here to see what others think they are worth but when you know, if its the right length we might be interested in it. We have a 40 gal bow front we need a light for. Its 36" long. So if its 36 or slightly shorter, and the price was right lol. We may get it! sorry! Hope to hear from you soon. Have a great evening!

What I'd pay, hypothetically: $65, $100 (assuming 36", if they are 24" bulbs in a 30" fixture, then a bit less), and $25, respectively.

The light is 24". Sorry, I thought it, but the thought never actually hit the keyboard. :)

Probably not the optimal light for a 40 gallon tank, but that somewhat depends on what you're using it for.

I think I paid something like $160 for it including shipping, and of course it would be great to get all that back out of it if I sell it...but I don't think I should expect it.

If you can find 24" 4 bulb t5 fixtures with timers, switches, and fans , I wanna know where you're shopping. :eek1: I would love to shop there when I get ready to buy my next light.

No, I'm not kidding...if you can get stuff that cheap, I really NEED to know where. :D

when i buy used equipment, depending on how old it is i pay half what they pay would be like 80.00. Its like buying a new car and when you drive it off the lot its not worth what you paid for it. the light im selling i paid like 1,000 with shipping and i will get like 400.00 trade or 350.00 cash so.

You can sell it for whatever price you like. But you did ask. :wildone:

I got a used 36" 4 bulb fixture from a fellow ETRC member for $80. I got my 48" 4 bulb fixture from CatalinaAquarium.com for $150 new. I guess I'm cheap. :D

No luck for me... :twitch: The cheapest 4 bulb 48" fixture I find from them is $250. The two bulb is $225. Cheapest 24" 4 bulb is $225, and that's with no timers, fans, or led's. I didn't bother looking at bigger lights because I'm not quite ready to buy anyway.

Thanks for the site though. I kept it in my favorites. Never know when a good sale may come along.

That Sundial is a good light.
I'd say $200 shipped on the Sundial, maybe $180 if you need to go lower.
Not sure on the tank, I'm not as good at pricing those.

Is the stand 30"? I'm interested if you decide to sell it.

Thatpetplace.com has these for $207 with free shipping.

best,

Joel is cheap, but he is a great shopper it seems.

Half retail is a good starting point since the bulbs will most likely need to be replaced. You can do a search in the FS forum. Look for this model/fixture and see what it has be sold for in the past. That is generally how I set my starting point for things I sell. Good luck

Perhaps Joel should start a business shopping for people. He does the shopping and gets a $5% cut. ...but free to ETRC members. :)
