They are pineapple sponges, like coral hoarder suggested. They tend to pop up quickly in new systems and are harmless filter feeders. They will tend to grow where light isnt (overflow boxes, sumps, etc)
They are harmless filter feeders. If they happen to grow on a coral (not something they usually do) they can irritate the coral and if they grow in great profusion (also not common) they can case pipes and things to be blocked. Fortunately they are easy to remove with a pair of tweezers.
