I had a yellow tang that did that a couple of days after I got him. He stopped and was fine and still is fine. I dont' know if its the reflection like Kreeger1 said or if its some type of acclimation. Anyway, If he's eating I'd be ok with it.
It looks like he's incorporating a little tail flick which like others have said looks to be defensive against his reflection. If he starts glancing off the rocks it would be a sure sign of a parasite such as ich. Also, his belly looks a bit sunken. I would make sure he has regular access to nori to fatten him up.
No ich dance there....Who was that who said reflection off glass?"
That very well be the case...or some other strange behavior...
I have seen my yellow tang do that before even after several months in the tank. Maybe free swimming pods???
Not really sure why, but have had no problems since then.
Thanks everybody. I taped some sheets of paper around the bottom of the tank to reduce his reflection.
He`s not rubbing on the rocks, just the glass once and awhile.
I feed him a 3" or so piece of dried seaweed everyday along with pellets and flakes. He`s eating very well. Is nori a brand of seaweed? Is it better than most? Where do you buy it at?
i was watching a special on tv about the reefs and they had some breeding tangs. they would shoot up and move like that, im not saying thats what it is but.....? i hace a scopus tang and every so often for a few days he does the same thing
