It's hard to say for sure, but many different species of crabs will intentionally cover their carapace with different invertebrates as a means of camouflage.

He is a Hairy Emerald crab. Hairy Emerald Crabs are the reef variety of the common Mithrax Sculptus. He is good and eats bubble algae. There are a lot of different Emeralds.
