What's with the "frags for profit" recently?

So, who is this freaky guy? Curious mind needs to know:strooper:

Adam, Hubby was going to go w/me to PU the stuff owed to me for the grooming & fish I gave him but then the fellow stopped taking my calls. When I *67 before calling, he said he paid me w/the "free" sand & water I got from him. Any time anyone posted here about going over to see this guy I would set them straight or send them a PM about him. That really ****ed the fellow off & he publicy reamed me enough to get kicked off here. Guess he won't be doing that to any more unsuspecting woman he meets on this forum, at least...

His name is Jeff, went by the name of Marshall Mann. Lots of folks have many creeeeeepy stories about him!

I wondered where he went!

Anyways back on topic.... I think people put too much value on money. They spent $50-100 on a frag and think they deserve to get the same amout to recoupe their cost. I believe that after you've spent the money the first time there's no reason to make the next person pay that much. I figured that out a long time ago when my CD colletion got stolen. Since then my collection has exponentially grown by sharing with others and I must say I've given a heck of alot more than I recieved.

The only problem with trading frags is that you'll run out of room, at least till you set up the next tank.;)

That really sucks when people have to be that way Jeni.

Anyway back to the topic at hand; when I get the prop system going I am going to be one free-trading son-of-a-gun to help incdrease the diversity of my tank and as many others as I can.

I have no problem with getting a few bucks to defray costs. We all know how expensive it is to run our setups. I hope my earlier comments weren't too harsh or taken the wrong way.

I'm just saying that if you buy a rare zoanthid frag with 5 polyps and you pay $100.00 (which I never would) and you put it in your tank. When there are 40 polyps two months later you can do the math two ways.

$100 / 40 polyps equals $2.50 per polyp based on the original price.

Or you could say that:
Now I have 40 polyps / 5 polyps on the original frag that cost $100 = 8 frags at $100 each.

This simplifies it and doesn't account what it costs per month for each square inch of surface area in the tank to run. But I prefer the first equation to the second. Dollars to donuts if Zoanthids were my favorite my preference would be to find someone that has a morph I want that wants a morph I have and trade even up, polyp for polyp.

When I am selling frags I don't really ever take into account what it cost me to get the mother colony from frag to fragging size. I just set my prices low because I want as many people as possible to grow new mother colonies.

Case in point was the frogspawn I mentioned earlier. I got that frogspawn as a 2 head frag with the heads being about the width of a dime. I paid probably $20.00 for it. The following frag swap I had fragged it numerous time each time a new multi-head stalk grew. I kept one 3 headed colony with heads silver dollar plus sized and call that one the mother and aside from that I sold 6 frags with a total of 14 heads at $5.00 per head.

I get a great deal of satisfaction just thinking that there are probably 6 giant pom-poms of frogspawn out there now from teh frags I sold and I hope to see much of that get fragged and distributed at the next CMAS swap.

Not to mention the frags you practically gave away when you were ready to leave.....Thanks. :)

Back on topic again JGLeach; I'd rather give them away then replant them. Those softies really grow fast when the water and lighting are just right.

Momma always taught me to share the love, share the wealth. Also that your good deeds come back to you in good will.

Some days I get the "No good deed goes unpunished" feeling but most days the pther philosophy works out.

And how does one officially join The BOTR?

not to flame.. but BenjieC you are openly admitting to copyright infringment.. which is against the law.. i know lots of people copy burn trade music and movies.. but to put it in writing on a public forum.. be careful..

BTW DRjmadscientest.. selling that cats paw for $75 each frag.. Menard was selling the exact same thing for $15 per(btw i bought the colony, and once it grows some it will also be for $15 per frag.. as most of my stuff is..

Im trying to help off set the cost of my system by selling frags..

if its rare it should be worth a Little more but these huge prices are rediculas
rem last year when Acans were so HOT , now there not..
prices on rare stuff will go down as everyone gets a piece and it grows in their system its not so rare anymore..
but lets be fair and smart.. be patient and thet $75 piece will be avaiable in 6 months for $15..

Plain and simple...if you don't want it, don't buy it. You dont have to criticize everyone for not selling like you or anyone else would. This is America last time I checked.

I'm with you Dr. J. What, did I wake up in communist Poland? From what I've seen most will not pay high prices. If someone wants it that bad, let them have at it.

it is america,
but this "Reef Central/CMAS"is supposed to be a community, all of us being fair and reasonable with each other, not try to use it as a forum to try to charge more then you think you can get and then end up with such a gross profit. And i believe that simply bringing in corals (that you get to go hand pick) to chop them up for profit, not to stock your 30gal main tank, I believe that would be considered comerical sales, wouldnt it?

What are you talking about? Who goes and hand picks corals? Are you refering to the corals I had shipped back from my honeymoon in Fiji? Getting a few corals sent back in June as a memento for my 30 gal setup doesn't exactly constitute "hand picking" and selling corals. Stupid rumors start from children like you. Why don't you try doing a little research about people if you are that concerned with what they are doing. Atleast that way you will get your facts straight and not look so much like an idiot.

Please ,I dont appreciate being called a child or an Idiot. If my facts are wrong , i can accept that,I you are still over charging fellow community members...

Try apologizing for it, not accepting it.

If you think I am overcharging, then that is your opinion and your prerogative...I accept and respect your opinion.

Perhaps you should let the people on Frags that sell them for more know how you feel.

PS - Im sorry for calling you a child/idiot
