Whats wrong with this Blasto? pic

Please tell me why my blasto is receding like this. it is in a bright area of my tank with 4 39 watt t5's. Is that too much light? Is the floww ripping it off. I have it in the area with the most gentle flow in the tank.

Could be too much light. Its a pretty localized recession though- I would guess an injury or some kind- bitten by someone or stung by another coral.

if u look closely, There is a tiny aiptaisia on the upper recession. but the tissue that is receeding below has not aipatasia. hard to kill it being so close the the blasto

Eew. . . . That aiptasia looks like a spider *shudders* Is could just be that the little PEST walked to a "better" spot after hitting that part of the blasto. I know the first one I got wandered for a long while before find a good spot for me to kill it at.

Im new to blastos. Some of the others are exhibiting the same thing but to a lesser degree. I have four 39 watt t5 with icecap reflectors ina 30 gallon tank. The blastos were about 15 inches from the light. This is equal to but mid point of the tank. I have moved the frag to the bottom with a little shade and will wait patiently to see if it improves. I have a tunze 6025 alternate every 15 minutes with a Mj 1200 mod. The blastos are in the corner behind the 6025 and the mjmod so they dont receive any direct flow. I hope it pulls thru. Anymore advice would help. It feeds on mysis. It has really pulled off of the skeleton. Given the proper conditions can they recover from this?

FWIW I have 2 large colonies of Blasto W. They are on the bottom of my 58G and off to the side in a little shade. I run 1 150W 20K MH and 2 x 65W actinics. Mine do not like a lot of light. I would try and remove the aiptasia. I have seen polyps of mine do that and then totally disappear only to be replaced by 2 or 3 smaller polyps.

I've only got merlettis, but mine were pretty pale when I had them in the middle of the tank. I moved them to the bottom(Currently have a 65 watt 50/50 pc on a 20 gal. tank) and they're much brighter. So I'd also think maybe a wee bit less light?

Both my wels did that when I switched from PCs to MH, even after being acclimated. I moved them both to the darkest places in the tank and they recovered very quickly.

Thanks for all the help. I have them on the bottom of the tank off to the side. They are now about 2 ft from the four 39 watt t5 s. Is this enough or should I put them slightly in a cave or under a ledge?

blastos grow under cliffs in the wild. Moving them to shade should help. Try feeding them after the lights go off with some cyclopeze or arcti-pods

In the cave huh? I have some caves and will give it a try. WHat about micromussa. WHat kind of flow and light do they prefer. I have one dragon eye micromussa that is also receeding. It arrived like this and has not improved.
