Fish: powder blue tang
Tank: 18 gallon QT ( day two of TT treatment)
Ammonia 0
Ph 8.2
Salinity 1.22

-Fish is eating very well
-Very active, not shy and rarely hides
-Fish is scratching
-Appears to not be breathing rapidly
-Has white small string like growths growing from his mid section, fins and now starting on eye.
-eye doesn't appear cloudy

No visible sign of ich

I am day two into tank transfer. Fish is doing well except scratching and fugus like growths.

Possibilities:
1) Flukes - sratching could indicate flukes. But I don't think you would be able to see flukes like these growths. Aren't flukes extremely small and hard to see?

2) bacterial infection (note fishes body looks normal, not swollen)

3) fungus/lymph?

Possible treatments - start prazipro for possible fluke treatment while doing Tank transfer.

Or

Treat with marcyn or marcyn 2? Is there any medication that does both gram pos and neg?

Can I combine antibiotic treatment with prazipro? If I really suspect flukes then should I just do a formalin bath?

If he wasn't actively scratching, which could also indicate ich, I would be less suspect of a parasitic infection like flukes.

Cheers
Brett

Well, a pic would help diagnose the "white small string like growths". That sounds like Lympho, but of course, could be something else. Furan-2 is an alternative antibiotic to Maracyn 1 & 2, and it treats both gram positive and negative bacterial infections.

I would confirm Flukes before starting Prazi treatment, and I don't think I would combine it with TT in an 18 gal QT on a PB Tang. You should see stringy white poo coming out of the Tang if it has Flukes. Also, you could do a FW dip to confirm Flukes.

I need to breakout the 7D and get a real good shot. Bt since that takes more time and work always gets in the way, here is the quick shot. If you blow up the picture you can see the growths.

I don't know much about fish disease or parasites, but I hope your fish get's better! Just wishing luck. Fingers crossed
