i was looking to get a mag foxface in my 90g reef i keep sps lps and softies
i also have a purple tang so i was hoping the foxface would keep him in check
i just wanted some output on your guys experience with them
thx luke

I have had one for about a year that is now close to 6". Great looking fish, peaceful and doesn't bother anything or anyone. They are very skittish though. Any time I do anything in the tank he hides and if I get close will bolt away and in fact one time jumped out of my tank and landed behind it. Fortunately I was able to scoop him up with a net and put him back in and he was fine.

A little different, but I have a Fiji Fox that hangs out with my Purple Tang almost all the time and appears to slow the PT down a bit. They make a pretty humorous pair.

Recently I bought a mag foxface at LFS. The employee recommended me to go to a hospital if I ever get stung by a foxface. Is it true? Has anyone been ever stung? Please share me with your experience. Thanks.

I was told that the sting is like a bee sting, unless u are allergic of course... I have a mag fox face in my reef and him and my purple tang r best friends, they literally follow each other around all day

I have had my one spot for about 4 months and I have my mag FF in quarantine now. My one spot is very skittish and the mag seems to be as well.

My mag. Foxface is excellent. I also have a moorish idol which I feed New Life Spectrum pellests on an auto feeder three times a day. Luckily my mag foxface loves the pellets and cleans up all leftover each time.

I've had my magnificent fox face for about 4 years or so in my 180g No problems whatsoever. Never touched a coral. Never worried about getting stung as they will shy away when hands are in the tank. Great fish.

I added 2 magnificent foxface one week apart back in May 2010 in a 180g fo. They have been great and as others have said they are very skittish and took a few months of chasing. Once they settled down they hang out together in the same cave and both loves pellets. They were 6-6.5" then (1/4-1/2" difference between the two) and grew about an inch since. The get along in the community tank with other fishes very well.

Here's a pic of them when they just came in

flameangel88, you have the beautiful mag foxfaces!! I have one myself. I was thinking about adding a bicolor foxfaces into the same tank, but I've changed my mind. I am afraid they would fight each other until one get stung?! It sounds like you have a pair.

boboo,

I added a bicolor foxface soon after I added the magnificent foxface and I didn't notice much aggression. The bicolor was about 3.5-4" so it could be size difference that it didn't have much aggression and the smaller bicolor knew to get out of the way of the other 2 larger foxface. If your tank size is good I would give it a shot but have a plan B if things don't work out.

This video was taken last year when they have been together for 13 months and it was during morning a feeding of flakes & pellets

flameangel88, your tank looks beautiful!! I will try to find a different size of a bicolor foxface then. My mag is about 4 1/2 inches which is the most common size foxface at our LFSs.

I have had my one spot for about 6 months now. I got him form a guy that was taking down his tank and when he netted him he got pocked. He said it felt like a bee sting and lasted about 15 min of pain. I really like my foxface a really cool fish but like others have said mine is also skittish kind of a basket case but still a cool fish.

i have a foxface lo in my 187g, great fish, very cruisy swimmer, uses all the tank, and eats out of my hand, never seen him touch any corals. However, He is very skittish, still growing and already at 6", eats alot and i mean a lot! Imo i wouldnt be housing this very personable fish in a display smaller than 180.

boboo,

Thanks and good luck on your future addition.

To all reefers with a foxface,

I think we can conclude that foxface is mostly skittish from the various response here. My question to you, is your foxface active? My pair eats a lot whether dry or frozen but they don't seem active grazing rocks. Matter of fact, they seem to be content hanging together in a cave and they don't go out for any long period of time. They are one of the biggest fish in there so no one will pick on them. I look forward to hearing more about this.

Mine is very active it swims with my yellow tang all the time. When he gets spooked he hides behind the rocks and wont come out.
