What's your must have piece of equipment?

So I'm working on getting my new tank up and running , the tank thread will follow, but just wondering what everyone in the NYRC thinks are some of their best equipment purchases, thing you wouldn't be without, something you wish you did from the start....

For me it would be my Apex. I have everything connected and programmed to it and I'm able to view and control the entire system from my phone. It's good for when your away on vacation or work. It will also email and text alerts if something goes wrong.

Ya I've never ran one but think i'm going to break down and get it

So I def should pull the trigger on an apex huh? Is the Apex worth the extra money over trying to find an Apex Lite? I guess the Lite was just discontinued

yeah you need one in case there is a flood and the landlord don't get ****ed!!LOL
if you don't want wait for the new apex is coming out soon
get the Jr for your set up

I think for me it's like this:

1. A tank set up for both a price and design that I actually wanted (as opposed to just getting the best deal on something I could deal with for now)

2. Apex...honestly, I go out of town frequently and I dont have to worry about coaching my wife through turning on the lights or saying "well, I'm only gone for 2-3 days...the corals can manage".

I bought the acjr first, with only 4 ports...but need 8 now that i finally have the set up I really like. I just want to automate everything!!! I dont NEEEEED it....but it makes life so much easier.

I started a nano tank not too long ago and I noticed that the water quality is taking a beating without a skimmer i have a bio wheel hob filter and boy have i seen a difference of a tank with a skimmer and one without so I would say skimmer is a must have atleast for marine tanks.
