What's your take?

I have had my nano cube 24(31# Figi LR, 3-4 DSB) cycling for about a month and plan on taking things really slow and adding cleanup crew in 1-2 months--I have read numerous threads regarding the back chambers in my nano--I took out the sponges on Sun. and put in approx 2#'s LR rubble in each chamber(with carbon bag in chamber 2 as well)--I know it's not a perfect science and eveybody has a different opinion, but what's your take for the chambers--LR, LR rubble, or keep the sponges? Since I took the sponges out the water has been cloudy and am waiting for it to clear up--looking for some opinions--thanks,Deron

You could ask 100 people this and get 100 different answers.

For mine:

Chamber 1 - Chemi-Pure on the bottom - Filter Floss on top (Like it better than a sponge, $7 bag from Dr. Foster & Smith will last me a year, should be replaced every week).

Chamber 2 - Purigen (Makes the water clear) & Jabra heater (can't remember the wattage, maybe a 75?)

Chamber 3 - Upgraded MaxiJet 1200

[IMO]Dude, if you don't have a skimmer of anykind, put at least one of the sponges back in the first chamber[/IMO]

I have a 12 gallon Nano and everyone told me all kinds of things. What I found that worked the best was to leave at least one sponge in the 1st chamber or you can get floss to replace the sponge and throw the dirty floss away every week. The more sponges you have the clearer your water will be, that is if you take proper care of your chemical ranges. One thing I am glad I did do though is take out all the bioballs in the back. I left the ceramic rings in and I have no live rubble in any of the back compartments. I do a 25-30% water change every week and add Calcium, Iodine, Purple up, Trace, etc etc everyday. My nitrates, nitrites, and ammonia are all at 0. I don't have any fish though.

Good Luck
