What's your temp?

I was toying around the seasonal temperatures of my ACjr when I decided into looking into the proper temp for my tank. An article by R. Shimek (see link below) recommends having the temp around 80 F. But the ACjr default temp are lower, varying from 75 to 80, depending on month. An lfs I visit has his display tank hovering around 78-77 F. I remember Thales saying sea temp in Tonga being 78 F, and talks from coral farmers to BAR had their temp lower than 80 (78F??).

<b>So...what temp do you have yours?</b> I figure I'll just ask people and take the average. Or the median.

Right now mine is 77-80. In the summer, it will be 80-82.
I like to keep it at 78-79 but without a chiller (NOT FANs) that would be impossible.

I run mine @ 77-78 year round. I'm using fans and chiller. But the main problem is my sump is located in the garage so, I have to use couple of heaters this winter.

i keep my tank at 78-80 F year around. the room stays pretty cool year round and even in summers the ambient temp is around 70 F so its easy to keep the tank around 78-80F.

Mine is about 76-79, depending on the season. The AC3 has a built in program that is supposed to mimic the temperature changes and lighting duration as recorded in some part of the tropics (do not remember exactly where). I set mine to that and have done well so far.

BTW, have you ever seen a pic of a SPS tank Shimek keeps? I sure ahven't

Tonga is seasonal, it cooler then that 1/2 the year

Most people that have dealt with both Fiji and Tonga for many years, recommend low to mid 70's.

Thank you Gresh. Of course now I'm no more confident of my temp as I was before I posted this thread.

Baaah. I'll just use the default seasonal temp of the ACJr and observe the tank and readjust - with the consideration of my PG&E bill of course.

I find I get much better colors in my corals at lower temps. For one, my tank has a higher DO (disovled oxygen) level when it's cooler.

Glass lab thermometer I use a mercury one, but they're gettting really hard to find now. Most are red alchohol
