When batteries meet a sps reef

So i work away from home and my brother knocked my auto feeder into the aquarium. He didn't pull it out for about "4 hours" until the water was merky. :headwalls: The auto feeder had some nickel cadmium batteries in it and I guess they started to leak. tank is running carbon in a BRS reactor that was changed 3 weeks ago. My question is there anything that should be done? It's a 60ish gallon system.

My girlfriend has more knowledge about aquariums than my brother and is going to do some water tests later tonight after work and maby a water change or change the carbon. I'll post the test results when I get them and some pics.

I think I am going to come home to a tank full of dead stuff in 3 week, I think its most likley.

Ugh! Carbon & water changes. What else could you really do in these situations? What's a little carbon & water cost you in the long run compared to losing a tank full of corals & fish.

Ibwould get some heavy metal media to tumble. Seachem makes a product that turns from tan to blue as it exhausts. I

I had batteries fall in salt water for 12 hours when I was on vaca but nothing bad happened but as a precaution I did a 25 percent water change and ran carbon. it should be fine. When I t [k the batteries out they looked pretty nasty but then again it fell in the sump and not my main display

So I was able to get some test results from my tank.

Ph 8.35
Alk 7
Ca 300
Mg 960
Iodine .1
Potassium 400

I'm not sure if my doser is failing or what's happening. Since I left every thing short of the lights have had problems... I was told everything looks good except one coral, which from the shitty cell pics i recived looks ok to me. Their is a lot of mucus strings everywhere but I'm not sure if it's from yesterday or of its on the corals. But anyways ill see what you guys think.

As for what I can do is limited because trying to tell/teach my brother is kind of like :deadhorse:. is that calcium too low? is the ph too high? I had my girlfriend add a 50ml of tech m and calcium today, she also changed the carbon in the reactor. She did not have enough time to do a water change. My doeser pumps 65 ml/day of 2 part from EVS.

retest Ca and Mg, as are way too low for a reef. Aim for Ca 400-450 and Mg 1300-1500. You can increase both around 100/day. but your readings seem low enough that you might have defective testkits... just a thought/possibility anyway.

don't worry about pH, just chase KH consistency. 7 is OK, but just make sure you keep it stable.
