When buying a Mag Float should i buy a size that is exactly for my glass thickness or go one up.
the tank is about 3/8 to 1/2 (not in front of me at the moment)
a 3/8 glass calls for a medium mag float- im thinking maybe i should get a large or will that become to hard to move?
- i have a 117 gal tank.

Buy what ever size suits your needs the best. Make sure it designed for the type of tank that you have. Some are made for glass and some are made for acrylic.

it certainly won't hurt to go up one--it might help with green corraline algae that I find very difficult to remove without scraping

with all mag floats you have to watch you don't pick up any detrius, sand ect otherwise you could scrape the glass

I have the one designed for my glass, and i am getting a smaller one so it will have less "force". I have scratched a few spots on my glass already. I usually use a scraper but when i am lazy i use a scuff pad (algea scrubber) in between the mag and the glass and that works really well for the light stuff.

+1. My nephew likes to do all the algae scrapping and a lot of the time he like to mess with it and the float will deatach and sand get in btw the float and the glass. Now i have all these scratches on my tank.
