When I first Joined Reef Central I learned......

A DSB is just as evil as a BB tank. You can't win.

And that the Europeans are not 15 years ahead of the Americans, but actually 15 years behind them :)

I agree with the evil DSB part but what makes a BB tank evil?

I think he's commenting on the intensity of the DSB vs BB debates.

I learned the difference between good and bad LFS's...

Yup. Evil in the sense that it looks butt ugly, collects detritus so requires more maintenance otherwise it looks ugly etc.

Ah.. see this is the only negative coment I read about BB, that its ugly. Most ppl that are BB have enough GPH in the tank to suspend all detritus to get it up into the skimmer box.

I persoanlly dont get detritus out of my LR because they are all fully cooked.

What I learned after joining reef central for a few weeks or a month?

Never bring up your opinion or preference when it comes to asking about DSB or BB. Just ask simple, fact based questions or else.

Follow a few simple guidelines and you can have a successful saltwater tank. Stray away from one of those and your in for some work and headaches! IMHE! RO/DI water, Good skimmer, enough live rock, good flow, etc, etc...

that you have to have all the best and most expensive equipment to run a sucessful tank, and don't you dare try to do anything different from what everyone else is doing or you will crash your tank and it's all your fault.

I have learned....

That newbies know everything about SW tanks!

At least they THINK they do. :D

That there is NEVER just one answer to ANY question, NEVER one right way to do things, and to NEVER ask about 'reefzilla'.:p

Sorry for being rude but that statement is just wrong. I think people reccommend more epxensive equipment because they have gone through the experience of going the cheap route and they might actually be trying to save you some headaches and problems. You do, unfortunately, get what you pay for ;)
Don't need the 'best' or the 'most expensive', but quality is very important.

That there are many many knowladgable reefers out there that can help most anyone BUT myself like many I know do not like the harsh remarks that can and does happen here. Arent reefers all good people ? I like to say yes. Maybe we can keep things more constructive in the future for all our sake and keep this place more respectfull to all.

seriously though, i have learned that:

1) i have to spend money to be successful
2) i have to be patient
3) a refugium is an absolute must for me
4) YOU MUST INCLUDE PICTURES IF YOU WANT HELP, FOR ANYTHING
