When I first Joined Reef Central I learned......

No matter what you might hear at the LFS--Bioballs are nitrate factories, rios are horrible pumps, puffers will eat anything that they can get in their mouths, lionfish are not reefsafe, the most expensive equiptment is not always the best and my favorite stony corals cannot thrive under normal output lighting.

I have learned that an alphabet soup of terms takes 2 years to master.. then you usually get it wrong anyway:

250MH HQI DE, DSB, BB, CL, SPS, LPS, FOWLR, RR, PC, NO, RP, LS, LR, etc.. etc...

I also learned that to be a "good" aquarist you need to be a Chemist, Biologist, Electrician, Carpenter, Plumber and have a side job robbing banks to get by.

1. Electricity, Water and hands/fingers don't mix.

2. There's more than one way to do EVERYTHING!!

3. Take every suggestion about methods..etc with a grain of salt. Just do your research and come up with your own solution for your certain situation. What works in my tank, might not work in yours. Does that mean we shouldn't share? No! but don't curse me for posting my experiences just b/c it didn't work for you!

4. If you need a quick answer, RC is the place to be.

5. LFS's (most of them) only want to sell you as much as they possibly can. They don't care/know about your personal tank.

6. 'Dosing' is absolutely retarded!!! *** was I thinking when I spent all that money on every product Kent makes???? They now sit, half used collecting dust in a drawer. I just can't bring myself to throw them out.....

Global Warming.. HA.. it is -35 C right now where I am (That is -32F for all you imperialists). Call me a cynic when it takes my car 20 mins to warm up above freezing.. after it was parked in a Garage!

Kidding.. I know Global Warming is real.. but on days like this I can't wait for it..lol

that nobody on RC is an expert.
to learn by synthesizing my own answer from the multitude of answers found/given
That NooBs ask a question, and keep asking it until they get the answer they want, not the answer they need. Somebody out here will always pass on misinformation..

that everyones a noob, there are no experts or SW "veterans".

no matter how good a tank looks its got its problems, just like ever other tank in the world

umm...there are definitely veterans of this hobby
...they might not be experts but through time and experience their knowledge is much more thorough than a noobs' ;)

I think you meant to say that everyone is always learning more...

I learned never to try to sell a tank system or coral as a whole......always the next post is "Are you willing to part it out?" or "If you frag it out let me know."

To remove the damsels when cycling is done and BEFORE you complete the aquascape and add corals!

I learned that Post Count means NOTHING but people still believe the posters with the MOST number of posts...

I learned that people can put "50 years" under the "Hobby Experience" field and everyone will believe it.. lol

I learned that Tangs are like "preferred customers" here.. lol :D

..that vodka, sugar, pickling lime, lemon juice, garlic, and driveway de-icer can be poured into a tank- with potentially Beneficial results.

Ah.. see this is the only negative coment I read about BB, that its ugly. Most ppl that are BB have enough GPH in the tank to suspend all detritus to get it up into the skimmer box.

I persoanlly dont get detritus out of my LR because they are all fully cooked.

That there are always people who take tounge-in-cheek threads seriously. :D
