when is enough enough?

My girlfriend has had a "mated pair" of black and white clowns for about 8 months. The female has always been very aggressive and we have always said give them some time they will calm down. Well like i said it has been about 8-9 months and the poor little guy is pretty beat up, sometimes the vibrate around each other, but she pretty much keeps him in his little hiding spot and runs the tank. When do you call it and just claim the mating as a bust? I think its time to take her back to the lfs and let the little guy have the tank, maybe add a peaceful fish like a firefish or goby. What do you guys think?

. I would trade the female in on a new female. How big is the tank?

Yeah about that, if you are in the jacksonville area dont do any business at bioreef, even though i bought the fish form them a year ago and I brought it in safely in a bag looking healthy, they don't do store credit but they were happy to just take him for free...yeah right. Hopefully I can find someone on my local forum interested in her
