When to run skimmer?

thats what i was thinking but had read a few different things and young kid at LFS mentioned only running it 12 hours a day so i thought i would ask.....

24-7-365. Mine only stops when I am cleaning it out weekly.

Please excuse my brevity. This was sent from my Android via Tapatalk

Did the kid at the LFS have a reason for not running it?

The only time I can think of to not run your skimmer is maintenance and maybe when feeding things that can be skimmed up, such as phyto.

It is a very small Wheelers Shrimp/Prawn Goby, so we're planning on getting a Candy Cane (aka Randall's) pistol shrimp which don't get much bigger than an 1.5 inches or so long when full grown.
