Where are my pods??

Hello guys,

About 3-4 weeks ago I ordered a 10K+ pods from algaebarn and put them all in the tank as instructed. I checked and there was visible life in the bags.

I did not have a fuge until a couple of days ago but I do have a decent amount of rocks for them to live.

I'm not sure it it is me but I do not see them anywhere in my tank. I do see some white particles being pushed around by the flow but they look more like normal tank stuff more than live pods. I do not have any pod-addict fish in my tank yet.

Do you normally see your pods in your tank or just hope they are there?

When the lights are out in the evening give it 30min then check in the tank with a torch. You will probably see loads!

Usually in the morning when the lights first come on I can see them on the glass, but then the fish start to pick them off one by one. They're probably in your tank, but they're just doing a good job at hiding.

If they're in your refugium, feeding a little phyto daily will go a long way to keeping their population up.

I have so many now since I ended my fallow period, they look like bugs crawling everywhere. If I leave the film algae on the glass for a few days, they are are on the glass during the day eating it.

I did get some phyto with the pods. The thing is that after a few days the green stuff separated from the water and I'm not sure is still good. I keep pouring a good amount each day on the tank (after shaking it well), I suppose that if it is not good anymore at least it will not harm.

Yes it separates, thats why they tell you to shake the bottle daily.

Are these my pods? I have the walls of my sump full of what look like white dolts but if you zoom in are tiny worms curled up.
Good or bad??

allendehl, no they are not pods, they are Polychaete - Chaetopterid/Spionid (tubeworms) and Spirorbis spp (Spirorbid Worms). Harmless if not beneficial filter feeders.

Can't really tell. I can't see any pods. I ordered a doble pack and was expecting to see them in large numbers but they seem to be great at hiding. Built up my fuge and all but I don't see them anywhere

I do have filter socks but I read and asked about it and, though I believe it should catch a number of them, consensus was that enough would still make it.

Assuming your refugium is downstream of your socks they will not be much of a problem. I have a large pod population in my refugium, but because I have 5 wrasses in my display I don’t have a lot of pods in the display. Rarely do I get pods in the filter sock.
