Where Buy Online Acrylic...

I need some 1" thick acrylic so I can make my external overflow. Here is what I need:

(2) 8"x 8"
(2) 34"x 8"

I got a quote from a very well known tank builder(glass .....) and they wanted $250+ $44 for shipping. That is crazy! Where online can I order (CHEAP) 1" thick acrylic in the sizes I need?

I don't know the strengths of acrylic but my local Home Depot carries 3/4 inch Acrylic.

That is nuts! I got all the pieces for my c2c overflow and external box for $50. That's cut to spec and the edged polished (or beveled, I forget what they called it). Forget the well known tank builder. You can get the same thing and probably better service if you just go to your local glass and mirror shop. They will probably be better known for replacing windshields, but there is only so much money in that. Most also custom cut glass and mirrors.

As far as acrylic goes, the stuff at HD will be fine as long as there is no pressure, which you will not have in an overflow. You did not mention whether or not you have an acrylic or glass tank. Acrylic and glass don't bond well. it will stay, but if you are working around it and bump it, you run the risk of knocking it off. Been there, done that.

I apologize for taking a slight detour here but does the Home Depot acrylic happen to come in black or any other colored sheets too? I'd like to make a couple light-proof overflow covers.
