Where can I get a sponge?

I just hooked up my skimmer, and now I need a sponge to put in the sump because I'm getting tons of microbubbles in the tank.

Does anybody know where I can get one that is at least 12" long?

You might try waiting a couple of days to see if it calms down. Some skimmers just do that intill they are broken in. I'm sure the critter or Ebay would have something. I know the Critter has that big roll padding they could cut to whatever size you want.

I might go to the critter today and see if I can find something. Right now the tank has no bioload at all...just sand and water right now, so I'm afraid that the microbubbles from the skimmer will likely stay the same if not get worse.

I'll keep it running in the meantime, and I should be getting some LR this week.

Well if you don't have any livestock in the tank you don't have anything to worry about then as far as hurting anything:)
Your bioload should have no effect on the amount of bubbles.....just the consistency of skimmate.

Yeah...this tank is very very new...the sand hasn't even been seeded yet. But I really want to get these bubbles under control before I move on.

I'll go check out the Critter in a bit. Thanks Chris.

Sometimes microbubbles will come from a water conditioner or some type of additive. even some frozen fish foods contain these conditioners.
What was your water source when setting up?

You may also get less bubbles in the tank if you open the air valve on the skimmer all the way. That way you increase air and water contact time within the chamber so the bubbles won't be expelled into your tank.

The bubbles will go away either when the skimmer gets broke in, or the conditioner has been pulled out. No worries.:D

It's pure RO/DI saltwater, no additives at all.

I put a 100 micron filter sock around the pump...that did the trick I think.

Nevertheless, the skimmer is just now getting broken in. It has only been running for two days.

Thanks for everyone's replies. I think I'm in the clear, so to speak, now...and we'll see what happens in the next week.
