if your house has a septic tank, where do you throw away your water change...? i felt i would post in the big tanks forum because 10% every week on a 200 and up tank is a significant amount of saltwater to be flushed down the septic system...

I always dumped mine in the back yard. I had 50x50 feet of grass to soak it up. :) IMO you would have to dump a significant amount of water (thousands of gallons) to have any impact on your soil.

Dumping 20 gallons of salt water down into a septic won't harm it as much as you think it would. Considering most of todays septic tanks are plastic the only real thing u have to worry about is any pumps and or fittings with metal componenets. Even still considering the size of a septic, the salt water you pour down the drain will be significanlty diluted by water already present in the septic. Your average shower uses 80 - 100 gallons of fresh water alone.

I would not put the water in your septic System. I just had my 1000 gal septic tank pumped, at the tune of $800 bucks, With 3 girls in the house a 240 that I do weekly water changes, waste water from RO, bath's ,clothes washing, dishes I was just putting too much water in the system to allow the bacteria to mutiply to the point where every think was breaking down Per the septic pump guy. So you should try to pump/dump it outside in an area where you are not concerned with the grass or flowers.

I dump my water via a sump pump to a dry retention pond in my front yard as I don't want it going into my septic system.

what if i just let a whole drum of salwater empty over a period of a few minutes down the cement drive way and let the water run down the street to the sidewalk gutters that are usually used for rain water...? would this create any problems with the neighbors...? is it gonna leave salt residue on the road and will this cause any problems...?

I dump mine on the lawn but lately I noticed the lawn looking a little sad... So i just run the hose in the gutter while i poor away!

I use a siphon that's hooked up to a pvc line out my window, which runs out to the woods. I much prefer that to using the syphon into my sink.
