where do you keep your QT?

I have room next to the sump, but is that OK? Would I risk spilling water or splash from the QT mixing into the sump?

Just wondering how everyone else does it. Thanks

Prolly better to keep it further away from the sump or the dt. Threads I've seen say approx 10ft but I'm sure others will chime in.

I keep mine in a diffrent room so as not to cross contaminate the day tank. Its easier for me to keep all nets, hoses, pumps and such separated that way.

Agree with the keeping in a completely different room provides a much safer barrier not necessarily from splash, but accidently using the wrong piece of equipment in the other tank. If you are set on it being closer I would make sure to get some type of tape and color code ALL of your stuff that goes in the water- pipettes, nets, containers, airline, everything and anything. Depending on how you test salinity that even needs considered! The thing about having it in another room is you have to actively think about going to get something from the other tank so you won't easily pick something up without thinking about contaminating it and place it back to use on the DT. One drop of water can completely ruin everything you have just taken time to do. (I didn't realize how easy it would be to pick something up without thinking about it until I started using the TTM because those tanks are right beside one another until the flip happens and that little bit of time where one set of things is right there within reach can easily cause every step taken before to be void)

I keep my QT in the "mix tank room". Have it plumbed so that I can do WC from the mix tank or "used" water from the DT.

I would NOT put it under your stand with your sump. You need to be able to get a good view to spot issues, and a place where you can easily change water is critical (an un-cycled QT may need DAILY water changes).

A place that is quiet and dark can also ease stress in fish.

Just some thoughts.

Recently upgraded the QT light so I can QT Nem and corals.
