Where is the best place to get liverock from? I know places like TBsaltwater has aquacultured rock and if it looks like the pictures, it looks like really good rock. I can either order some online or get some at a LFS but I need several hundred pounds so price is a factor. Any suggestions?

If you go to Pet Mart in either Tampa or St.pete on a saturday they have a sale on livestock anything over 50 bucks you get 36% taken off your whole livestock order at the register. Plus I am sure they would work with ya if you need several hundred pounds.

not a fan of the store but animal house in stpete got in some very nice rock a few days ago. all kinds of great stuff on it and got here in in really nice shape. all rock is 4.99 a pound i think.

some very large pieces and very light

IMO you can't go wrong with what John has at Fish and other Icthy stuff.
I'll PM you with some pics.

oldsaint, please do and if you happen to know the price per lb and the type, please let me know also. thanks

Also, what do you all use for sand for your tank, do you just get sand off the coast or is there somewhere around that sells Southdown sand like a home depot?

i would get the rock at fish and other lcthy things there prices are good and nice selection or rockin reef there prices goes down the more you buy

do you know the address of animal house, I found two of them, one on 62 or 34th?

the 34th st and 9th ave N one. The 62 Ave N and 4th street doesnt have any saltwater. Fish and other ichthy stuff is a good choice (FAOIS) as well as Finz. The cheapest would be Life oceanic @ 3 bucks a lb, but they are moving location and i dunno if they are still open at the moment.

I like to mix and match rock from a few places... but I would try either Life Oceanic, it's decent stuff for a good price... or the rock that Fish and other ichthy stuff has. In fact, I'm on my way to FAOIS now!

I stopped by fish and other stuff today and the rock did look good and it is reasonable priced. Thanks to all who responded.

Contact TBSaltwater online at their website. They will let you order online and pick up on Hillsborough Ave.

You can actually go to TBS on saturdays they are open from 12-5. I got most of my rock from FAOIS. It is the best looking stuff i came across.

I know it may be a drive for some of you, but Life Oceanic in Apollo Beach has fiji for $2.99 a lb. They always have a huge selection and I was pleased with what I got from them. They also have lots of branching Tonga, shelf etc. if you want it. It is a little more, but no much.

Are you sure? I thought they stopped doing that and moved their facility?

Oh wow.... That just changed that within the past month. I was considering getting TBS rock to start my tank and when i found them their site said they were open on saturdays to the public. Sorry didnt realize they changed that since i had been to their site.
