Where is the sulfate?

So I'm looking at mixing up my own 3-part using Tropic Marin Calcium chloride and Sodium bicarbonate, as well as Mag flake and epsom salts. The reasoning is because I can't get a steady supply of Components 1+2+3+, nor can I get a steady supply of the Ca, KH, and Mg powders. It does seem that I can still order the Components Strong.

So anyway, I'm mixing up my own Components. Usually in a balanced balling system there will be a fair amount of MgSO4 to balance out the build up of chloride you'd normally get from using only MgCl2. How does Aquaforest deal with the chloride to sulfate ratio? I want to make sure I'm not going to inadvertently get a chloride build up in my tank.
 
The Ratio is 10:1 assuming both are hexahydrate and heptahydrte

( dry mix) this is no different what ever the method,

Thank you for the reply, but that isn't what I was asking. I was asking where are you guys supplying the sulfate? You're not using MgSO4 (because it doesn't mix with the CaCl2), so which of your products has the sulfate in it? :lol2:
 
You are not proposing to use aqua forest balling Mg C etc as there is no supply ?

if using Aqua forest buffers
Calcium is CaCl2
Magnesium is MgCl2
Carbonate is NaHco3 this is where the Sulphate is balancing the Chloride
using AF products you get Ionic balance,

if doing DIY you will need to do your own calculation depending on the chosen products

Thanks for the response. It seems like you guys have solved the issue with Canadian wholesalers. So supply should no longer be an issue for me. I'm going to continue with the Component 123. However, I did a Triton test recently, and the results came up with sulphur at 507 mg/L and Triton's setpoint is 900 mg/L. So it seems like AF is indeed lacking sulphur. I've been using the Components 123 since mid-April.
 
Aquaforest, are you adding sulfate in balance with chloride? A recent Triton test showed extremely low sulfate. I'm using Probiotic salt and Components 123 since April.
 
I have the mag supplement here and it's just mag chloride flake. I'm guessing that's all the use, you could always add a touch of epsom salt manually.

I wouldn't be able to add enough without raising Mg too high. I might experiment by adding some Sodium sulfate as a last ditch effort. Aquaforest doesn't seem to want to address the problem here, which leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. :uhoh2:

having used a bucket and a half of the ProBiotic Salt

Sulphur is consumed by bacteria in anaerobic conditions, it de nitrifies but is undesirable outside of a Sulphur reactor as the Hydrogen Sulphide gas is poisonous to the inhabitents

have you any back patched on sand or the base of live rock, this can be an indicator

Ok, but my question is which Aquaforest product contains sulfate? :facepalm:

I have a very shallow sand bed that is vacuumed weekly. The sand is quite clean. I also have a Pistol Shrimp that spends all day moving it around.
 
Sulfate are in:
- Mg Plus - MgSO4
- Component 3+
- Reef Mineral Salt
- AF Energy - copper sulfate

Magnesium contais MgCl2x6H2O.

Thank you for finally providing an answer. Ok, so you're providing sulfate in Component 3+, how is it provided? Which compound are you using? Depending which one you're using, it may not be enough. I'm just trying to figure out why my tank is soooo low considering I'm using your salt mix and dosing Components 1+2+3+ since April. Maybe Triton made a mistake, and maybe the next test will read normal. Until then, I need to do my due research. I hope you understand. :)

It's not usually a good idea to mix and match its better to use all the balling products as they are ironically balanced

however if your doing regular water changes with a good salt, I doubt Suphate will become depleted
