Well i am going on a cruse and i need to know where would be the better place to take a diving trip.

Costa Maya, Mexico

Limon, Costa Rica

Colon, Panama

Anyone have any info i would appreciate it.

Thanks

Mike

Well, looked into it some more and the ship only has Diving available at one of the locations. I don’t know if you can dive at the other places. or if you would want to :)

If i do it trough the boat it will be in Costa Maya, Mexico.
Anyone ever dive here? Is it worth if or should I skip it?

Thanks Mike

Mike, where were just in Costa Maya, did not do a snorkel or dive trip there though. I would think that there is reefs nearby. We have snorkeled in nearby Cozumel and the reefs there are fairly deep but are pretty nice. I am surprised there is not diving in costa rica. Maybe SteveMC will chime in here to help you out. I know they have made dives in Costa Rica. Then again on cruise ships I like to do tours sponsored by the cruise ship, this way if there are problems on your tour your are not left behind. Then again being left behind in Costa Rica might not be a bad thing...
When we where on our snorkel trip in Grand Caymen our boat had a problem and we where an hour late arriving back at the pier. Fortionetly a crew from the cruise ship was there waiting for us and they were holding the ship for us. Otherwise we would have been left behind. Again a night in Grand Caymen might not have been to bad but I am sure the plane trip to catch the ship would have been costly....
The ruins at Costa Maya are pretty nice, the people we went with went to see them and had a great time. Other then that Cost Maya is a little town developed by Coke and Carnival cruise lines. Very pushy sale force in the stores and alot of the same thing store after store. There is a large pool with a swim up bar but that is basically it.
Alot of times the snorkeling right off the beaches on these islands is better then a great day anywhere around here. So if you have your own gear take it with you. I know in St. Thomas this is what we did and had a perfect day on the beach, snorkleling at our liesure and seeing more fish and life then you can imagine.
Have fun and good luck...

I dont know where Costa Maya is exactly, but have dove on Cozumel and on the East side of Quintana Roo from Isla Mujeras to down past Belize, and it is nice and very clear. Coral reefs and big fish etc everywhere. Both of those citys in CR are on the Atlantic side, and I have not dove there, and have heard by some non-divers last time I was down that it was murky where they were. I am sure it does clear up though. I only dove on the Pacific side of CR, and that was way offshore, down by Panama. My dad dove in Panama years ago at Nombre De Dios which was the first port settled by Cristabol Colon(Americanized it changed here to Christopher Columbus) Colon was the third I think and Limon was the fourth. Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic was the last port he started. Portabello was the second port and it was the major loading port for the land from the Phillipines and Orient which the Spanish had major trading with. That is what CC was here for to open trade routes to the Pacific, and back to Spain. My dad dove at Portabello too. Lots of ships there. I dont know if the water was clear or not. I dont think they have much in the coral reef thing going on though. A lot of run off over that whole area prevents it. I would say Costa Maya would be a safe bet on good diving. Have fun and give us a report! Are you going to the BBQ this Saturday? If so I will talk to you then, Steve.

Yes we will be there. Thanks for the info. I dont know if we are going to go diving yet. but i would love to do it. Will talk to you at the bbq
