I dont know where Costa Maya is exactly, but have dove on Cozumel and on the East side of Quintana Roo from Isla Mujeras to down past Belize, and it is nice and very clear. Coral reefs and big fish etc everywhere. Both of those citys in CR are on the Atlantic side, and I have not dove there, and have heard by some non-divers last time I was down that it was murky where they were. I am sure it does clear up though. I only dove on the Pacific side of CR, and that was way offshore, down by Panama. My dad dove in Panama years ago at Nombre De Dios which was the first port settled by Cristabol Colon(Americanized it changed here to Christopher Columbus) Colon was the third I think and Limon was the fourth. Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic was the last port he started. Portabello was the second port and it was the major loading port for the land from the Phillipines and Orient which the Spanish had major trading with. That is what CC was here for to open trade routes to the Pacific, and back to Spain. My dad dove at Portabello too. Lots of ships there. I dont know if the water was clear or not. I dont think they have much in the coral reef thing going on though. A lot of run off over that whole area prevents it. I would say Costa Maya would be a safe bet on good diving. Have fun and give us a report! Are you going to the BBQ this Saturday? If so I will talk to you then, Steve.
