where the cheapest place to buy live rock w?shipping?any place give you free shipping with so much$ ordered? Thanks

I personally bought my live rock off of ebay. Got it for around 2 bucks a pound and was some awesome stuff. Just look around and you might find something that catches you eye. Also is a good idea to read some of the sellers reviews.

most of the time you can also find good cheap rock from local reefers that are getting out of the hobby. and also you can use base rock for alot of it and seed it with only a few lbs of LR

Cheap is not necessarily a good way to go, as most times cheap means heavier more dense rock that doesn't have as much capacity for use as the biological filter.
What you should look for is the lightest piece when comparing same size pieces as they have much better porosity, but this normally comes in the higher priced rock.
However, consider that the cheap rock is heavier so you pay for more pounds than a quality piece of rock the same size.
More pounds times price per pound can many times be very close to less pounds times the higher price per pound, and you get better biological filtration.

what? you can't sustitute base rock for LR! LR is for filtration. what are you saying here?

i have man made rock and i dont think its even close to the quality of lr rock yes it will be covered in time but i dont know how all these people think this base rock is so great. take a good look at lr and you can see thru alot of holes for filterationwhich is very hard to do w/ man made stuff. the amount of copods and other little hitch hikers w/ live rock. the man made stuff is just to dense.honestly i only use the man made stuff for frags.

I just received 25# of rock from International Marine Fish (http://www.intmarinefish.com/liverock.html). It was only $3 per pound, and if you buy 100# or more, they include free overnight shipping to the nearest major airport.

Gary is real good about responding to e-mail messages and worked with me regarding the shipping arrangements for my small order.

The rock looks pretty good, with nice red/pink corraline alge and quite a bit of surface features. My box included lots of flats for shelves and bridges, which I like.

Even with fast shipping, there was a fair bit of organism die off.
