Where to buy a bucket of Tropic Marin????

thanks for the help todd but i just ordered a bucket online from Big Als. only $67 shipped to my door which is perfect for someone as lazy as me.

out of curiosity, do you happen to know what Rod sells them for? i am headed out his way in a few weeks for a RO/DI unit.
 
I can't remember exactly. I am sure it's around the same price you paid online though. He is usually pretty competetive with that. I will ask and let you know.
 
Rod sells for either $59 or $69.

Could have ordered from PA for delivery at IMAC that's what I'm doing...
 
Is that tropic marin pro? I just ordered a bucket from PA and cost me 59 plus about 15 for shipping. I was out at Rod's not long ago and didnt know he carried it.
 
So do you all prefer Tropic Marin Pro over Instant Ocean salt?

Can anyone tell me why one is better than the other?

Be sure to check the Alk in that salt Jeni. I think Mhurley used that salt, (if I am wrong on the brand I apologize) and had very very low alk levels in his test. That is not to say it is bad salt. Just an FYI.

I prefer the Tropic marin myself. I have used all other brands and fine Tropic to be easily mixed and provides me with everything I need.

No kidding? My alk is always at 7! I wondered why... Doesn't seem to afect anything though. What negative effects would low alk have on my creatures?
 
Alk directly affects PH. If you have low Alk, you could possibly have low PH also and vice versa. Low pH stresses calcifying organisms by making it harder for them to obtain sufficient carbonate to deposit skeletons. Raising the alkalinity helps minimize this difficulty. calcification also becomes more difficult as the pH is lowered.
 
Maybe I should stick with Instant Ocean since everything seems to be doing good for me.

I have noticed that it doesn't "dissolve" quickly since I have a powerhead mixing it up the entire time and I always have "stuff" on the bottom of my bucket after pouring it into my sump.

I just prefer Tropic. I started with Instant ocean and then went to others. Oceanic gave me the brown jelly ordeal, then tried all the others. Found tropic mariin and have been happy ever since.
 
I keep mine (ALK) at or above 9dkh. 7 I would think is a bit low, not horrible, but I would try and raise it a bit. Do it slowly, but monitor Calcium and ph at the same time to to keep everything i check.

Yeah, levels nuts (Ca way too high, Alk way too low), and nasty, tenacious algae covering all the rocks.

I'm taking a stab here, but I'm guessing that's what Poppy meant, and is what I and many others experienced using Oceanic salt. The incredible thing is that they haven't changed the formula still. If you mix it at 1.020, it comes out fine re: levels, but who wants that low a salinity in a reef? Mix at 1.026 and you are up *#&@'s creek.
