Where to buy a pair of black and white ocellaris?

Got mine from the Drs. Foster and Smith retail store, she special ordered mine. Beautiful pair, they spawned last night as a matter of fact. Try calling the retail store.

Doesn't A. Ocellaris = False Percula = tank raised?

I thought I read somewhere that false perculas are false because they're tank raised and not caught in the wild.

False percula is just another name they are using for A. Ocellarris. Regardless of tank raised, tank bred, or wild caught.

Hmph, so it just comes down to coloration and number of spines on their fins. False Perculas could also be WC?

False Perculas (a. ocellaris) and True Perculas (a. percula) are two distinct species in the wild that happen to look like each other. Most True Perculas have more black on them than the False Perculas, but a lightly marked True Percula can look very, very similar to a False Percula. In these cases the only reasonably quick way to distinguish them is through their eye color. Both are regularly bred in captivity, so you should be able to find CB (captive bred) and WC (wild caught) specimens of both species.

On a related note, Black Ocellaris are a highly melanistic version of False Percula (a. ocellaris) that originate from the North coast of Australia around Darwin. Most specimens seen nowdays are CB, but occasionally a few WC ones will make it to market.

Gotcha, for one reason or another I thought that all wild caught perculas were true perculas or A. Perculas. But once bred in captivity they'd cross a mystical barrier into becoming false perculas, or A. Ocellaris. Therefore, there would be no such thing as a wild caught ocellaris, with my reasoning.

It was nice being naive, it made a decent story.

for what they are they are not overpriced id say underpriced if they have any left at all

but these were perfect wild caught specmins no bent gill /skinny body/ orange face/ misbars.

As far as I know WC clowns can't be shipped from Australia, I called but no one answers.

What i really know is that theres a breeder down there that produces near to perfect TR Blacks and exports them to LA, I have a feeling this is what they have, Ill keep calling.

i talked to them this morning not about this thuogh

they were clearly labeled WC and i had a conversation about them. they did not look like tank raised fish they were too big

also they have been releasing allot of new austrailian corals and fish that were restricted before.

nope, i never mentioned LA they have captive bred B&W

well they are not large but small is not a way to put it either they are bigger than any ORA B&W ocellaris ive seen for sale. and bigger than most tank raised percs or ocellaris for sale.

2"+ with nice FAT body shape i have never ever seen nicer tank of clownfish in a store.

the largest had a misbar stripe the rest were perfect from what i saw and there was none of the orange on them
