Where to buy CO2 locally?

I took more than a year but I've finally bought a calcium reactor.
Is there any local place where I can get the CO2 tank filled? I've found an old post from Steve mentioning Hocon Gas in Bport.

Thanks,

Didier

Didier - I hope you find someone other than Hocon. They're a bit of a racket. They will not fill your own CO2 canister, you have to use one of theirs. And they won't rent you one. You have to buy one.

So for $100 or more, you get a beat up canister full of CO2. When it runs out, you bring it back and swap it for one of their full canisters for a nominal charge $25-$40 as I recall.

The important thing is to buy a size that they commonly have in stock. If you get an odd size (as I have to go in a small stand) and if they don't have any when you need gas, then you either have to get a different size. A bigger one will incur a size upgrade fee. And a smaller - when you bring that back - will incur a size upgrade fee when you trade that in for your regular size. And no, they do not issue a credit when you take a smaller tank than the one you are returning.

That's why I'd love to hear about anther place. These guys are a rip off. But I know of no other alternative.

Also... because of that size problem (not having the size you want it, when you want it) I keep small cylinder around all the time. So when my main runs out, I can swap the small one in and take my time about going to Hocon. And if they don't have the size I need, I've still got a few weeks to wait.

Subscribed... and hoping to learn of an alternative CO2 source convenient to Fairfield County.

I didn't know welding places carried CO2. Do you know which one? There's apparently a few in Bethel.

I do not know the name, if I drive by there tomorrow I will get the name. I have always seen the tanks there and assumed they sell co2

I have my tanks filled at a beer and soda company in Norwalk, CT Drinx unlimited "Makers of Freaky Dog soda". 372 Ely Ave 1-800-861-7632.

It takes maybe 10 minutes to get a tank filled. I've used them for over a year.

They do not exchange tanks. I do not know if they have new tanks for sale.

I use them too! I rent a tank from them and fill it every year or so for 15 bucks. I have a large co2 tank. definitely the best deal if you have room for a large one. If not talk to them, very nice people there.

I asked my metal worker who said to go either to Hocon or Airgas.
Following Steve's advice, I didn't go to Hocon. And before I've read Bob's reply, I decided to try AirGas in Stratford.
They were very friendly. I brought the empty 10lbs cylinder I got with the reactor and they gave a full one for $21. Pretty good deal, friendly service and 2min off I95 exit 30. Just on the way to ExoticFC if you are going north.

@Georgi - I was using 2part but I found a good deal on that reactor and, as I hope that one day I will have a full SPS tank, I will need it. OK... I just wanted to give myself a new big toy as an early Xmas present :celeb1:
