where to buy stand and canopy

So now that I am moving to our first house with my girlfriend my stand does not match any of the furniture we picked out. and it is starting to be in some rough shape. I bought the stand used from a local reefer about 5 years ago. so now im trying to find a stand and canopy. A lot harder trying to find a 6x2x36 stand and canopy than it was with my old 75 gallon. so question is where do you guys with bigger stands find them? Any good websites to look at? None of my fish or pet stores around me have anything over 4 feet

Most people build their own. No one is gonna pay attention to the detail and put the effort into making something that fits your needs and has the fit and finish that you want more then yourself.

+1. A lot of people just build them. Even if you're not very handy, they're not too difficult to make and you can save a lot of $$ over buying a premade one or having someone make a custom one. (There's a good template on this site from member RocketEngineer.)

ehhhh i don't know... i cant even install molding or cut dry wall right. and then id always question whether it was safe and be paranoid

Find a finish carpenter in your area and have them build you one if you don't have the skills it takes. It would be better made than a pre made style stand

ive found one online and it was 2200 for the stand and canopy. ill have to check local and see if I can find a finish carpenter around here

I built my own and costed me about $5000 due to buying all the tools.... but it looks much nicer than anything prefab. Sometimes lfs will have contact info for cabinet markers that do lots of aquarium stands...

SC aquariums will sell just the wood stand and canopy. You could ping them to see costs. I got my tank, stand, canopy, and few other odds and ends for less then the stand quote you have above.

Though with SC you are limited to their wood finishes and can't really dictate changes in that regard but should work for most applications.

It really depends on what you want and how much you are willing to spend. I contacted a local woodworking guy and he wanted 135.00 just to build a 2x4 frame based off rocketengineer's template. That was just 2x4's and for a 40 breeder stand.

I ended up spending $25.00 and bought the material and did it myself with the help of a friend. So depending on how you want to finish it could increase the price greatly if someone else does it. On the other hand, if you feel it's not something you can do, then by all means, find someone who is able to do it right the first time.

Look up Driftwood Aquarium Furniture. Local guy and his work is incredible! Also has a Facebook page full of projects he's done.

ive checked three different cabinet makers and not one said they would want to build a 6 foot stand to hold a 180 gallon tank :(

Some are probably just being cautious. The company I posted above is a cabinet maker that started making stands on the side. He ships them all over the country and he understands what an aquarium stand needs since he has been in the hobby for a very long time as well.

Try posting on the local fish forums. If you were local I would be happy to help you out. I would thing you could find another local hobbyist to help you out.
