Where in SoCal can I get Dowflake for the Randy two part calcium and alkalinity additive?

Anyone? I found a few places online but shipping was like $30.

That's about the only way to get it here. I bought a 50# bag last year and the total was around $80. Still have some and as you know it's still way cheaper than store bought ca.

hrn...this thread is making me revisit that page regarding making ur own two part additive.

i'm in maryland now. too bad i couldn't bring a 50 lb bucket w/ me....or can i......

edit: well checked at the home depot here....never heard of that stuff.

A while back I found something similar sold at a pool supply store. It is Anhydrous Calcium and is suppose to be the same as Dowflake. This product is labelled to increase calcium hardness in pools or spas. I ran this info by Randy in the Chemistry forum who was confident that this product is fine to use as a substitute for Dowflake.
If you only trust Dowflake brand, check out Buckeye field supply:

They sell 4 lb bags for only $5 + $8 shipping.

The only problem with large quantities of this stuff is that it attracts moisture, then when it gets wet, it generates heat, lots of heat. Just be careful when storing it.

How do you recommend storing it?

By the way where are you guys getting magnesium chloride hexahydrate? I was thinking of using epsom salts but I thought a buildup of the phosphate in it is not good.
