Where to find PNG Epaulette?

I was gonna be a real Smart A$$ and just say "In and around Papua New Guinea.."
But i wont.....
lol.
Other than being really lucky and finding a captive breeder with young ones, I haven't seen them imported in a very long time. That and I've heard that the few, if there were more than just the One, collectors that were finding them are no longer in PNG. Could be fact or fiction. I tend to believe it because I've seen more rarer sharks recently than the Halstromi eppies.
Which is a shame, because of all the carpet sharks in the trade, the Papuan Eppie is probably the shark that is most appropriate for captivity.

You will not find them in this country until their export prices for fish drop. Maybe you could get one to hitch a ride with a lightning maroon, but other than that, it may take some time. It is called sustainable practices. Like green energy, it is unaffordable when compared to the norm and though noble, not a great business model for the masses.

I spoke with the only licensed exporter/collector less than a year ago. PNG had shut down all exportation several years ago and a new company had popped up with permits. I called and was told they only have one client in the US. I spoke to them and there was no real interest in bringing in sharks. Others have had the same experience who contacted them. I spoke to a wholesaler about bringing them in, but the cost of the fish were higher than US retail even before shipping costs and they were not willing to place an order unless I paid for the entire shipment. I had someone in Canada willing to place an order but ran into problems bringing them into the US with customs. I have a mature egg laying female hence my search. There have been some captive raised ones sold, including on DD, but I have seen photos of the stock and they are not hallistromi. Live aquaria stopped bringing wild ones in when PNG shut down collection. It has been over two years. Closer to three. I wish you luck.
