Where to get actual live sand from around binghamton?

Hi guys new to the site not to the hobby, I reside in Johnson City and a fellow local told me about the site! I've been having a terribly hard time looking for a cup of live sand from an established tank, I've been to creature comforts and petco and neither were willing to sell me a pound or even a cup of live sand from their tanks,they only referred me to the bagged stuff :thumbdown I prefer not to shell out 24 bucks for dead sand :spin1: Do any of you guys know where I can get some live sand from an actual established tank?
 
i'm a ways away from you but pm me if you are near syracuse soon. i have about 4-6 in. in a 125g I am planning on getting rid of
 
Hey Gary I have some in a 45 gal that is loaded with aiptasia. I am looking at buying live sand for my new set up. I guess I was thinking if I wasn't wanting to use it why would anyone else. I would give a pound of it to any one wanting nice little pest in there tank.
 
I only get on here during work hours - lol,
I live in Endicott, but can drop off a cup to you if it would help. I think Rick at Nature (on 26) would give you a cup as well as he tends to bend over for reefers in need.

On a sandy note, when I first got into this hobby, our frag meets were small and somtimes everyone would bring a cup, mix it up with the rest, then eveyone takes a cup home. I had such a diverse micro-fauna in my old tank and miss it. Would anyone ever want to do a sand cup party? :celeb1:

On the power outage note, Best thing I ever got for my tank was an APC UPS - keep my skimmer and a PH on it and they can run 24 hours sans power (it was built for servers).

I had a couple power blips but nothing major. I too have a UPS (uninteruptable power supply) that my circulation pump and heater are on. I too can go for a full 24 hrs on it. And we also have a generator.
 
power outages are so much fun oddly enough it was just my internet that was affected... its funny u dont know how addicted u are to reef central till u go a few days with out it!
