Where to get Cheato?

Wanting to add cheato to my sump. Where is the best place to get it? Also what lighting is needed? Does it need to be on all the time?

grab a little from a fellow reefer, or you can buy it at several online stores.

some people will light the sump opposite of the main tank, or leave the lights on 24/7. plants need a darkness period to grow properly.

Ill be looking to borrow some soon also. I have another couple of days until the 250g is ready for it.

SS has some as well as some Ulva. I'd offer you some but mine isn't big enough to split up yet.

I always have a bunch. holar when ever you want it. I have a fuge with it lighted 24/7 and a frag tank full of it lighted 9hours a day.

HD and Lowe's have the $5 clip-on metal shop lights. Get a curly-q cfl bulb around 20 watts and you're good to go. I leave mine on 24hrs because I'm too lazy to buy another timer and it does fine. Also, just about anyone on here will give you chaeto for free.

I have had mine at one time under 400w DE halides and it did fine... just about any light will do. I have seen the best growth out of the lower K spectrum.... 6000K or 6500k will work the best IMO.

What about flow? I have a maxijet running in my sump to keep the water moving around, would that be too much flow for Cheato?

Also, can I keep it seperated from my return pump using some egg crate?

eggcrate should work just fine, on the flow mine always liked to be "rolled in the flow" if you will, but a mass of the green stuff will grow regardless
