I don't know about pickling "salt" but if you're looking for calcium hydroxide go to a mexican market and ask this question: "Tienes cal?" (say: Tee-ennez kahl) Most of them have it year 'round. It is needed to make some stuff from corn from scratch.
<a href=showthread.php?s=&postid=11897986#post11897986 target=_blank>Originally posted</a> by miracles38 I found some at Walmart in the canning section.
The problem is that Walmart only carries them seasonally in the Fall for canning. Unless Kim just recently found them at Walmart, I'm pretty sure you won't find them at Walmart since they are only carried in the Fall then clearanced in the winter.
Wal-mart doens't carry it anymore so stock up in the late summer fall! We have a mexican store here that sells it in 2.5 oz packages which is odd but I dont use much.
Yeah I was just at the Walmart on Watt & El Camino with no luck, they didnt even have a "canning" section. Also tried Bel Air, Safeway, Save Mart, Home Depot, Target, Walgreens, and maybe more.
I got a meximart that sells 1lb bags for $2.50 -- Just don't get pulled over on the way home or you'll have a heckuva time explainin' all that white powder in the unmarked bag.
I have a bit of the Mississippi lime if you are interested. I sell it only to MARS members at $1/lb at the meetings. This stuff comes from my personal stock, so I have a bunch. I can bring some to the March meeting if you like.
If you can't find a pickling lime pm me I can spare a couple container for you for the same price I paid for it. I think that was $2.65+ tax each. I'll be at the mars frag swap next week.
