Where to locate controller temp. probe

I've just purchased a Reefkeeper Lite controller, and I'm wondering where is the best place to locate the temperature sensor to control my tank temp. I have a sump where the heater and fan (for cooling) are located, and these will be controlled by the reefkeeper. My question is, where should the temperature be monitored? In the the display tank, in the sump at the inflow section, or in the sump return section (which contains the heater)? Does it matter?
Thanks for any thoughts.

I use an RKE to control my system. I have my heater element in the skimmer (inflow) side of my sump and the temp probe in the return section.

Thanks. I guess I could move my heater to the skimmer section, but there's not much room there. I'm worried if I have the temp probe in the sump before the heater, there will be too much of a lag in detecting the increase in temperature, resulting in large fluctuations.

I got mine in the sump but in a section past my drop in chiller. In case I had a pump fail I didnt want the chiller freezing the sump because the tank hit the temp for the chiller to cut on, but didnt want it in the same compartment which would make it have to cut on/off more often.
