where to put my tank

I know i shouldnt be putting my tank near a window or door. I am planning on putting it in my basement. However, i would like to put it in a room down there that will have a mini moview theatre. Nothing to crazy, but i dont know how everyone living unerwater would feel like if we are watching a movie or playing video games. Should i be building a sound proof wall with a sound deadening window? Any thoughts would help.

It's nice to see you thinking about your pets and noise. Most folks are worried about the noise the tank makes.

If it's really loud constantly that my stress the fish out. If there are loud bangs it may cause some of the fish to jump, but a net over the tank would solve that.

Are you ok with possible glare from lights etc in the screen while trying to game or watch movies? We crossed the basement off the list for that very reason. I want my tv to be the only light source during movies.

I have my 120 gal. reef in my mancave in the basement. right next to a 55" plasma. I like my surround sound loud. past fw and now salt and never had a problem. doors slamming or pounding on the walls/floor can be a problem.

Cool. Thanks to all. Tank will be on side wall, so glare wont be an issue. Good to know that some one else has the same idea. Just got a bigger tank. Started with 60 gallon, just grabed a 120 gallon. Needs alittle work but i think its a good start. But thats all i have.

Most apt to bother them is a sound system. Humans may like bangs and thumps, but those go straight to that nerve that runs the length of a fish's body, and may prompt suicidal jumps and running into rocks and glass. Pain is likely.

+1... they also hate it when you tap on the glass...lol

Wow didnt think of it sk8r, and heathlindner25. Forgot about the whole tapping on the glass. I guess a sound proof window will need to be built. Thanks.

Tank in the basement with home theater (7.1 surround system). I have never observed the noise affecting the fish. Tank up and running like this for 10yrs.

fish don't hear like we do. I have been bass fishing for over forty years. one myth is talking or playing music on the boat will affect the fish. absolutely false. banging or dropping things on the boat will. to fish, vibration is everything. if you have your sub woofer shaking the house, than that could have an effect on your fish.
