Where to source glass?

Inexplicable

New member
I've been reading threads about projects and fixes for some time, and I keep coming across suggestions to use glass. I assume that this glass can be purchased, but I've had trouble finding it, and I am tempted to go buy a 10g aquarium to break down so I have some stock glass.

The reason I'm asking is that I recently bought a tank that has a chipped corner (image attached) and reading up in the DIY forum on fixing it suggestions have surfaced indicating that a patch of glass can be used. However, I looked around town but the only glass I can find seems to be the cheap thin stuff from the big box stores. Where do you guys get your glass for your reef-related projects? Help is most appreciated.

Are you looking to replace the whole panel cause I know if you try a glass specialist they may sell you a piece that's where I go to have anything cut or buy glass from I had some custom lids made with notches for my filters etc but you need to look at what's the price if a new tank compared to a new price of glass wouldn't make sense to fix a 10g it's like a 20 tank but if it was a 200 gallon then yeah as far as going to a store to get glass or ordering it on line I wouldn't have a clue but you can google glass specialists that cut glass etc and they can get you a piece of glass but not really sure if I answered your question lol

You cannot patch that and expect it to hold. The entire glass panel must be removed and replaced. The suggestions are wrong, and the suggesters have no real experience with tank building or repair. :) That tank is done, and unsafe to put water in without replacing the panel. I would consider turning it into a reptile tank, before I would suggest reparing it. But it is up to you. I would tell you where I get glass, but it would not do you much good. ;)

If your tank has a plastic rim on the top I would consider risk of further damage while trying to replace that one pane. I just took apart a 20g tall for the same reason and I ended up breaking the rim trying to take it apart. I was turning mine into a frag tank so I didn't need the rim anymore. The silicone under the rim is hard to break free.

The pane that had cracked started from a small chip in the edge, luckily it just had water and vinegar running in it in my garage. Crack started about 2 in off the bottom.
