Which clam for nano?

Which, if any, clam would be suitable for a 12 gallon nano cube dx? Is 48w(4 watts per gallon) enough? Is there a clam that will not grow too large to be housed in this small aquarium? As you can tell I know nothing about these clams. Any help on this topic or other clam info would be greatly appreciated.

Agreed, sorry. Clams are VERY light demanding...even if you had twice as much light it would still be not good. A 150w MH bulbis a good start. Watts per gallon simply doesn't work...it's about the intensity (PAR).

Even light issues aside, they are hard to keep in a small tank due to their sensitive nature and the chemical demands they place on a small system.

If you are truely interested in one and willing to change your system it would be possible with careful planning and research into their needs, which we would be happy to help with

I think the lighting issue is debatable, I've kept clams in PC lighting from 64 to 120 and they've done fantastic, placement of clam to light (inches). Should it be done? not by someone who doesn't have experience with clams. Clams generally do better under MH lamps but you can be successful with PCs as well.

As far as keeping a clam in a 12...uh...no, to the best of my knowledge, every clam will outgrow a 12 gallon withing 2-3 tears not to mention your lighting issue. Clams require lighting and younger clams sometimes require feeding(phyto dosing etc etc.) which can alter your water params.

I hate to say this, but sometimes you just have to walk away from inverts that may not suit your set up.

Crocea's are small and slow growing - get one about 3" so it doesnt' need to be fed and you will be happy.

But they are the highest light-demanding clam and wouldn't work. That's the problem. The fewclams that might work under proper conditions get too large. The smallest clam is WAY too light demanding.
