if that tank is 18 inches or more i wouldnt recomend any other clam than a derasa and even then that one may not work. it would have to be a 10000k to get a high enough par rating probably.you may need to put it up on the rock work as well but, that will have to be determined later by you. good luck
I have a crocea under 150w and he is doing ok - I do have to keep him high up on the the rocks though. But then again, the T. Crocea (also called Boring Clam) prefers to be on rock work as that is where they are generally found in the wild. The crocea only grows to 6 inch max and has among the most beautiful colors and markings (IMO) - do a search and read up before you buy.
crocea or maxima...to me the others are dull...and they can get HUGEGEGEGEGE like the size of your tank!!!!!
you can keep it...start it on sand for a few days...move it up as necessary but definitely start it low as i do all corals to let them slowly accclimate to the light
While gigas grow relativly quickly, if you dont mind, they do great under "lower(i use this cautiously )" lighting....good luck with whatever you chose!
