Which clownfish?

Okay, so there is like a regular clownfish, a true perc, a false perc, and the maroon and clarki or somthing like that. Its obvious for me to tell a clarki and maroon ones, but what is the difference beteen the false perc, and true perc, and those. I'm going to be getting clownfish, and id like to know whats what. The type i want, i hate to compare it to nemo, but i want something like that, just orignal and nice looking, what is that one, and whats the difference between all these true perc, false perc, and regular clown?


I hate comparing clownfish to nemo, but all i really want is just a normal looking one like nemo. Which am i looking for? And which one is the 'best' type, and besides colors, whats the difference between them? like being aggressive or something

your looking for an occelaris clownfish AKA "false perc". there is no "best" type. it's all preference. some of them(like the maroon and clarki) are more aggressive.

Nemo is A.Ocellaris (false percula) preetty much the industry standard clownfish.

The difference are not enough to really worry about between That fish and A.percula (true percula). They both are a great choice. The difference should be about 10$ a piece and that is mostly because the true percula takes a little longer to grow up.

either of these 2 fish are pretty mellow as far as agression goes. IMO the true percula is worth the extra few bucks , but I couldnt tell ya why.. I just love em!

also, a lot of true percs darken as they get older. ocellaris stay the same and will always look like nemo.

Glad to see you posted this in the clownfish and anemone forum. You were getting some false info in the other thread. Ocellaris are typically the larger of the two species, and Percula typically have a deeper orange color. There are individuals that don't abide by this though. As Arati said, Nemo is an Ocellaris. Here's some pic's that may help you out.
