Which epoxy?

Can I get the correct epoxy to attach SPS to a rock at Wal-Mart? I have a monti with green polyps that my LFS really wants a piece of, but I want to attach it before I trade it in.

I find super glue gel works better for attaching frags to rocks. Epoxy is better for rock to rock.

I use the underwater one from Home Depot. It's a greenish blue color on the outside. Works good. I have found though, that using the epoxy and a little gel type krazy glue works the best. Takes a little practice at using the epoxy. I mix it together wait a few minutes kneeding it together then place some krazy glue gel on both contact areas.

I can't get the frags to stick around with just super glue gel. They always seem to get knocked around by a snail. I wanted to find the epoxy and make a small hole and put some SG gel in there and drop the frag into that hole. I'm sure that would hold.

SPSFiend: Can you remember the name of the epoxy from HD? I'm wanting something that is not going to have to cure for a long time.

Have you ruled out the epoxy available from most mail order marine fish stores? I use the one that is grey, 10 inches long with both parts together just mix a piece you break off. I costs about 8 bucks. Oh yes order 2 you will eventually use them.

I was going to order the epoxy you're talking about, toothman, but I'm a bit impatient and would rather be able to run out and get it. LOL

Thanks znut Reefer. I'll be checking that out.

Aquamend is basicaly the same stuff that is sold in LFS and online but only costs about $2.35. It works great.

Yeah I use Aquamend as well No issues at all and Seems Identical to the LFS stuff that you can buy..

I wouldn't use epoxy... I've found that it causes tissue loss at the base. Could be the heat produced during the reaction. Super glue doesn't work unless the part of the coral that is being glued is dry as well as the rock you're attaching it to. If they are both dry it should make a good quick bond that causes no damage.

I use superglue with good results. It took a while to get the technique down. First, I test fit the frag to find a good spot with a much surface contact as possible, noting where the frag touches. next I gob the glue on those areas. then I push the frag on and off of the rock several times to get the glue to stick to both surfaces. after a few times the glue gets gummy and I press it a last time and its as good as a weld. Good luck.

Gel all the way. Make sure both ends are dry, glue down and leave out of tank a couple min. to glue to set.

I can never get the frag to stick with sg gel. I put a huge gob of the stuff on the frag (I try to dry the frag as much as possible) and then try to get it to stick that way. I think I may try a gob of glue on the rock and a gob on the frag, and sort of smush it around until they stick well.
