Which fish are not "clam safe"?

I was just curious which fish could be considered non-clam safe? I figure there are different levels and fish are individuals but are there some fish to not house with clams? Thanks.

well, for starters most angel fish. i wouldnt chance it with them. some blennies can be nippers, many people dont know that though

Would a starry blenny be one to worry about? I have a couple of small clams and I was looking into getting one.

While I've read that red coris wrasses are beneficial to clams, in that they'll keep them free of pyramidellid snails, my experience was otherwise. My juvenile red coris flipped over a new maxima and ate the guts from underneath along with my melanurus wrasse. I tried adding a crocea later and he started pecking at the byssal area again, clearly irritating it. I removed it to my other tank until I can catch the wrasse. The melanurus has already been sold.

I do have a large derasa that he doesn't bother and a crocea that is tightly bonded to a rock and the wrasse can't get at the byssal area so that one is safe. So, if you can get the clam bonded tightly to a rock, red coris wrasses are probably safe, but if it's loose on the sand, I wouldn't try it.

Yeah watch out for the blennines. I had a bicolor blenny and it got too close, and the clam shut on its head! Well let's just say there is no more blenny. The crocea is doing great though!

In some cases TANGS. I would say the majority of tangs are usually harmless, my powder brown started nipping only 1 of my clams totally out of the blue. They have been together for almost six months and then for a week straight he started nipping at the mantle. After a little research many people have had this problem with tangs. I did some major aquascape changes and it has solved the problem for a few months now. If it starts again, they saw you have to get rid of one or the other.

Ok thanks everyone for their input. I unfortuately lost my blue corcea over the weekend. I had tank issues back in January and it pulled through until now. I still have my maxima though. It has never shown any stress issues over the tank crash.

Be mindful of Mystery Wrasses. Mine tried to kill two new T. Maxima's by knocking them over and picking at it's byssal opening. It didn't bother any of my other clams. I moved the clams and it seems to have left them alone. As a side note, I checked for snails and none to this day.

What about butterfly fisH? I have a big copperbanded that i've had for roughly 3-4 years and wasn't sure if he would eat one. Thanks

My Lawnmower Blenny "hosts" in my clam.
Never saw him nip it, ever.
He lays next to it or in it.
The clam doesn't seem to mind either.
